Locked out by Keyzmo mini-multitool

“The easiest way to carry all the tools you need.

It would be a waste of time for me to carry this

Typical tactical gear, and really little, so you’ll have no excuse not to survive the coming zombie apocalypse.

Lying and deception: False (0):

None found.

Chicanery: TRUE (-1):

  • Bulletins about other people buying multitools.
  • Terms are 10 pages long, 4,062 words. They’re displayed in a narrow window. They only have to do with the website, so nothing to see here. Privacy policy is another 7 pages.

Phony reviews: TRUE (-1):

  • Websites with more than 3 testimonials automatically fail this test. Keyzmo has 12.
  • Shills getting paid for reviews include Juneau Empire, The Gadget Office, Tech Device
  • In Trust Pilot I see six rather vague “invited” five-star reviews dated October 27-28 2021, and none before or since. Hmmm…

Crummy Product: Undetermined (0):

  • From Trust Pilot: “This key is something that I will never use this is something for a kid or a unskilled person that has no clue as to what he is doing. It would be a waste of time for me to carry this for the next possible repair.”

Overpriced: TRUE (-1):

Bad service: Undetermined (0):

  • From Trust Pilot: “I ordered this from an apple news link and the price was quoted in pounds. in confirming my order it quoted me in GBP, with added taxes. I then tried to cancel my order but no one has responded. no point having a good product if you don’t have good service!”

Total score: -4

Unauthorized charges: I found no complaints about this.

Advice: The cheaper one on Amazon will do to show off to your buddies.

Scoring: There may be nothing illegal or wrong with the above business practices.  But they suggest to me that the seller is not to be trusted. I’m using my Trustworthy scoring system; -1 means true (bad), +1 means false (good), and 0 means undetermined.  The practice scores total to a Trustworthy Score between +10 and -10. I penalize the seller for statements made by shills.

At least this one doesn’t have a picture of a doctor in it.

A nice store. But, suspiciously, it’s shared by some other businesses:

Ads, spam, robocalls: TRUE (-1):

  • They collaborate with third parties to track you and share data about you, ignoring Do Not Track browser settings.
  • They’ll spam and text you; you can opt out.

Lying and deception: TRUE (-1):

  • From Trust Pilot: “After all the pre sale spin about buying frim the inventors with no third parties blah blah it arrived with a made in China sticker.

Chicanery: TRUE (-1):

  • Popups about other people buying the last gadgets keep popping.
  • If you order a gadget, they offer you a discount to buy more.
  • The 10-page Terms document is from the website operator, Giddyup Group Inc., not from Bril. Nothing to see here. Bril’s return policy is a short, separate document.

Phony reviews: TRUE (-1):

  • The website is labeled “Advertorial;” so they’re admitting they made up the reviews.
  • Shills include TheGadgetOffice, TechTimes, Ossaward
  • From TrustPilot: “Love it! Bril is compact, stylish and works in just 3 minutes. There’s something about knowing my toothbrush is ultra-clean that is making me smile bigger these days!” Here begin a series of ***** reviews, all dated July 8, 2021. Hmmm…

Crummy Product: Undetermined (0):

  • From TrustPilot: “… to charge them, there is no plug, just a USB cord with a USB-2 plug. I am not going to plug this into my computer every time I need a charge.” But I’ve seen wall outlets with USB sockets in Europe (good idea).
  • “This product only fits old fashioned manual toothbrushes.” But Bril says “Fits All Toothbrushes – Electric, standard, large or small… Bril works with them all! (Yes – even small children’s brushes and oddly shaped electric brushes!)”

From ReviewOPedia:

There are also lower cost alternatives to sanitizing your toothbrush such as:

  • Microwave Ovens
  • Dishwashers
  • Mouthwash
  • Rinsing and Air Drying

Furthermore, most dentists recommend replacing your toothbrush every 3 months as an effective preventive measure for bacterial growth.

Bad service: TRUE (0):

  • From TrustPilot: “There’s no contact info and I tried a phone number that was on with reviews but it doesn’t work. I also tried and I don’t see what I can do. No customer service and that annoys me. When there’s a problem you should be able to speak with someone. Just saying!!
  • “Ordered five weeks ago and still waiting for my order to be delivered. The FedEx tracking number quoted on my order is not recognised.”

Total score: -6

Unauthorized charges: I found one complaint about this.

  • From Trust Pilot: “They told me to hold onto it and they’d send me a mailing label to return it. I’ve been waiting for the label for close to another month. It never came but they reversed the credit to charge me for the product which they know I don’t want.”

Advice: I run mine thru the dishwasher. But my wife doesn’t like it.
